Civil Nuclear
Decades of experience in civil nuclear manufacturing
Sheffield Forgemasters has been trusted in civil nuclear manufacturing since 1950, producing high-integrity steel components for traditional reactor builds, Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and fusion programmes worldwide.
Components manufactured for nuclear environments
Our skilled teams design and produce large, safety critical steel components used across global civil nuclear programmes. These include major assemblies such as reactor pressure vessels, pressuriser shells, transition cones, and fusion related structures, all engineered to withstand the extreme conditions of long-term plant operation.
Every component is manufactured through our vertically integrated facilities, with full control from initial melt through to final machining. This integrated approach supports the production of some of the world’s most technically challenging nuclear components.
Nuclear applications include
- Reactor Pressure Vessel Forgings
- Pressuriser Forgings
- Pump Casings
- Steam Generator Forgings
- Safety Critical Valves
- Fusion Reactor Components
- Nuclear Transport Casks
- Turbine Rotors
Our civil nuclear capabilities
Our civil nuclear capabilities bring together large-scale steelmaking, forming and precision machining, supported by specialist research and technical expertise for safety-critical nuclear manufacture.
Civil Nuclear manufacture is supported by ultra-clean nuclear-grade steel produced onsite. Controlled melting and casting processes enable the production of large ingots suitable for thick-section nuclear components.
Ingots up to 300 tonnes are shaped using our 10,000-tonne forging press, supporting the manufacture of major nuclear structures required for reactor, SMR and fusion programmes.
