Apprenticeships at Sheffield Forgemasters are built around learning by doing, with paid, fully funded training that sits alongside real work on the shop floor. The programme gives people a clear route into skilled engineering careers, supported by mentoring, recognised qualifications, and long-term progression. As the business continues to invest in new facilities and capabilities, apprentices remain central to shaping the future of the workforce.

Aegis Training & Development Facility

In October 2025 we officially opened our new 6,700 sq ft training and development facility, designed to upskill our machining apprentices for the next generation of nuclear-grade engineering. The facility was formally launched by our Chair, Admiral Sir Tim Fraser, who unveiled 18 high-tech engineering machines, including a state-of-the-art five-axis milling and turning machine, alongside cutting-edge digital operating systems. Located within our quarter-mile-long South Machine Shop at Brightside Lane, and featuring 800 sq ft of dedicated office and teaching space, the facility forms part of a four-year training partnership with the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre, which will see a permanent engineering skills coach placed on site.
