Casting care

An iconic node on Brightside Lane roundabout, near to our main site entrances has had a much needed facelift and now sports our new livery.

The casting is the very first of its kind in the world and was manufactured at River Don Castings, now part of Sheffield Forgemasters, in 1978, launching a manufacturing stream which transformed the assembly and structural integrity of offshore oil and gas platforms.

This component represents a key step in the development of cast nodes at Sheffield Forgemasters, as the node is part cast, part fabricated and served a precursor to the fully cast nodes which have been supplied almost exclusively by Sheffield Forgemasters to North Sea Oil and Gas fixed platforms.

The fact that many of these platforms remain structurally intact well beyond their expiry date, is testament to the years of development that we undertook to manufacture these nodes. We have since gone on to manufacture the largest cast steel nodes in the world and are unmatched global leaders in this technology.

The casting carries the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Engineering Heritage Hallmark and has now been treated to a facelift with our new branding.
