Steel Plant
Supporting Some of the World’s Largest Steelmaking Operations
Sheffield Forgemasters supports some of the world’s largest steelmaking operations with ultra-large cast and forged components. Our integrated melt, pour and machining capabilities deliver precision at extreme scale, with liquid steel pours in excess of 600 tonnes enabling single finish-machined pieces up to 350 tonnes.
Supplying Large-Scale Components for Global Steelmaking
We produce single finish-machined pieces up to a maximum of 350 tonnes to exacting tolerances, supporting the largest steel plant components including press frame cross heads, counter-blow hammers, hammer rams and mill housings. Our capacity for multi-ladle pours exceeding 600 tonnes of liquid steel enables the production of exceptionally large castings for forging press and rolling mill applications.
Our commitment to technology and integrated onsite steel facilities allows us to satisfy increasing demands for larger, heavier castings in the forging press and rolling mill markets. Large components can also be cast in multiple pieces, allowing customers to assemble at their own site and providing ease of transport for oversized applications.
Steel plant applications include
- Press Frame Crossheads
- Platens
- Mill Housings
- Tie Rods
- Drive Spindles
- Extrusion Press Cylinders
Our steel plant capabilities
We combine ultra-large steel pours with advanced engineering and fully integrated production. Every stage from melt to final machining happens on site, allowing us to deliver high-integrity components at scale, with precision and complete process control.
Over 600 Tonne Liquid Steel Capacity
Our melt shop can pour over 600 tonnes of liquid steel in a single operation, supporting the production of exceptionally large cast components for steel plant applications.
Finish-Machined Castings up to 350 Tonnes
With integrated foundry and machining facilities, we produce single components up to 350 tonnes in finished weight, meeting tight dimensional tolerances throughout. Cast components are available up to 15 metres in length and 8.5 metres in diameter.
Advanced Machining and Metrology
Our world-class machining centres include 5-axis systems and digital metrology tools, ensuring accuracy across even the largest and most complex steel plant structures.
Fully Integrated Production Site
From melting to casting, forging with our 10,000-tonne forge, heat treatment and machining, all operations take place at one location, giving us complete control over quality, scheduling and delivery.
